Common of California restaurants, multi cultural cuisine is a specialty in Carmel restaurants. Although Carmel is located on the coast, Carmel dining seems to have an emphasis on Italian food. The downtown area of Carmel, or Carmel-by-the-Sea as it is commonly referred to, is a host to many fine Mediterranean establishments with ambience to match. Carmel dining has a unique architectural design that exudes an exotic and foreign atmosphere, with many Mediterranean styles and menus. The wine list of many of the fine restaurants in Carmel would rival some of the more established wine regions in California.
The downtown area of Carmel is bustling with friendly pedestrians traversing the gorgeous arts district and frequenting many of the Carmel restaurants. Despite the activity, the dining in Carmel is friendly and quiet, and provides the perfect setting for a romantic night on the town; complete with a candle lit dinner and a fine glass of wine.
The nearby Monterey Bay often overshadows the beauty of the Carmel coast, but the sheer beauty of this region is second to none. Unlike Carmel, Monterey is often over crowded with vacationers and littered with large resorts and hotels. Carmel offers a much smaller population while still keeping close proximity to the big city feel of its neighbor to the north—Monterey.
The beautiful boardwalks of Carmel are lined with beautiful and original restaurants and bistros that vary in style from Mexican and Italian to what one might expect from a coastal city: seafood! There is no shortage of excellent seafood dining in Carmel.
The presence of the art community is evident in most restaurants in Carmel. The walls of most Carmel dining establishments are smothered with original paintings created by local artists. This sets the tone for an unforgettable occasion of savory Carmel dining coupled with fantastic original artwork.
The beautiful beaches and mild weather of the town only add to the charming feel and exquisite menus of Carmel restaurants. Dogs are welcomed with open arms in Carmel, and even have several events and many parks designed just for man's best friend, so there is no need to leave a canine companion in the house.
The most unique aspect of Carmel is the involvement of the artistic community. Boasting over one hundred art galleries, it is positively immersed in culture and beauty. Many festivals are devoted to the arts, including painting, sculpting, writing, and plays. The Carmel Art Association was established over eighty years ago, making it the second oldest art cooperative in the country. Carmel has been defining and recreating art, not only within the city limits, but around the word for years.
The community involvement in the arts is absolutely astounding. The Carmel Art Festival takes place in May of every year, and has been the launching pad for many local artists. The festival offers competitions, galleries, food and drink, and many other attractions. Each year a winner is chosen as the overall favorite.
Fine weather, beautiful art, and the amazing restaurants in Carmel are sure to bring unadulterated joy to all who visit.
