About Paso Robles, California
Paso Robles, also called El Paso de Robles, means the pass of the oaks or oak pass. It is the fastest growing city in San Luis Obispo County, California. Its neighbor is the Salinas River.
Paso Robles is famous for its hot springs, abundant wineries and for hosting the California Mid-State Fair that holds week-long competitions, varied entertainment and carnival rides. It links Los Angeles and San Francisco making it the gateway to large metropolitan areas. It houses shopping centers, schools, and large neighborhoods. The historical inhabitants of Paso Robles were the Salinan Indians who called the place springs or hot springs. The Salinans found the springs to alleviate or treat various ailments and to have therapeutic benefits.
The Franciscan friars built the first mineral baths in the area attracting the early settlers of Paso Robles. The early settlers tended cattle, ranches, orchards, dairy farms and vineyards and today the management of farms and ranches remain a trademark of Paso Robles.
